If you could change the shape of your nose without surgery, would you?  Over 200,000 people each year go under the knife for a nose job (otherwise known as rhinoplasty) but there are probably triple that number of people out there that wish that could fix the shape of their nose.   What many people may not yet realize, is that there are now ways to repair facial flaws without surgery.

Of the many common complaints that people have about the appearance of their nose, there are 5 top issues that can be improved through the use of dermal fillers.

1)     Bumps, humps, or bulges are concerns that are frequently addressed with nose recontouring.

2)     Drooping tip of the nose or too small of a tip can be repair.

3)     Nose that seems out of alignment can be made to appear straighter.

4)     Dents, depressions and other contour irregularities can be filled.

5)     Deformities caused by previous unsuccessful rhinoplasty jobs or through some sort of trauma can often be corrected.

Whether from heredity, injury, or as the result of previous surgery, these problems can often be filled, smoothed, or enhanced by fillers that are commonly used for non-surgical aesthetic procedures.   Non-surgical rhinoplasty is often referred to as the 15 minute nose job because it can be done in an office visit.   According to Dr. Michael Jasin, a board certified facial plastic surgeon in Tampa, the procedure takes minutes to perform and unlike nose surgery, you will be able to see the final result immediately.  One big benefit for many is that there is no recovery downtime.

However, if you want a smaller nose, a thinner bridge, a large bump removed, or a more narrow tip, a 15 minute nose job will not accomplish your goals.  Non-surgical rhinoplasty cannot improve breathing problems or correct internal defects such as a deviated septum.  Nor can it (or any other procedure) give you a “perfect”, completely symmetrical nose. As always, the goal of cosmetic surgery is improvement, not perfection.

In our next blog, we will explore how facial fillers can work to repair the Top 5 issues and how you can enhance the nose on your face.  In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more about your specific concern, we recommend that you contact a well-qualified plastic surgeon who has expertise in both surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty.
