Does it pay to be attractive?

Many people in this difficult job market are looking for ways to stand out and get noticed by potential employers.  And while some may not realize it, qualifications alone are not the only key to landing a job.

Recent studies have shown that the attractiveness is important, even for jobs that do not require contact with the public.  Once hired, better looking people earn more on average than plainer folk.  And while hiring managers will not admit it, there is a tendency towards hiring younger prospects provided they have the job experience to fill the role.

So, what do you do if you are not as gifted as others in the appearance category?   First, take care of the basics…  good grooming, a professional haircut and a stylish outfit are important to create that great first impression.  Maintain good posture, make eye contact and act with confidence to help move along through the interview process.

But what if you have some other issues that make you appear older than you really are?  Many people in this area suffer from sun-damaged skin and have premature wrinkles.  Or have old facial or acne scars, rosacea, or spider veins that may make them look less attractive or more aged.   Surprisingly, these issues can be fixed quite easily by a qualified medical practitioner.

There are several simple procedures that can erase wrinkles (think Botox or Xeomin), fillers that can smooth out the face and restore your natural youthful appearance (Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, and RADIESSE®).  Laser skin resurfacing can remove age spots, fine lines, scars and skin lesions to create a smoother, and overall healthier appearance.

This may seem like a big step while you are looking for a job but many of these procedures are affordable and the prospect of landing a good job will pay dividends.  If you are self-conscious about your appearance or have considered having some minor work done in the past, this may be exactly the right time to see a qualified facial cosmetic surgeon to get the information on your options.  Aren’t you worth it?
