With age, comes wrinkles, it is a fact of life in the Tampa area.  But if you have wrinkles on your forehead, the frown lines may make you look sleepy, annoyed or depressed.  A brow lift is a way to reduce wrinkles and improve your appearance.  However, there are several factors to consider before determining if you should have brow lift surgery.

Ways to Reduce Wrinkles on the Forehead

First, the bad news… wrinkles either in the form of forehead furrows, frown lines or the reduce-wrinkles-brow-liftvertical lines between the eyes (known as the 11’s) are an inevitable part of the natural aging process that no one can avoid.  If the lines have not yet begun to develop, then be religious about using sunscreens, moisturizers and try not to make any facial expressions that cause your brows to fold.  This is easier said than done.

Once wrinkles have started to appear, it is difficult to turn back the clock using any over the counter remedies to try to restore the skin to the smoothness of youth.  Injectable products such as Botox and/or dermal fillers like Juvederm can help to either stop the muscles from flexing (i.e. Botox) or add volume back into the grooves as done with dermal fillers.  Both of these injectable solutions are a quick fix that will give months of relief from the appearance of fine lines and furrows.  However, these injections will need to be done every six to nine months once treatment has been started in order to maintain the desired look.  For a long term cure, a brow lift may be the best way to remove the lines permanently.

A Brow Lift is a Long Term Cure to Reduce Wrinkles

A brow lift re-positions the skin, underlying tissue and muscles in the forehead to minimize horizontal forehead creases.  The surgery tightens up the skin and muscle to reduce wrinkles and raise the eyebrows.  Raising the eyebrows produces a more rested, pleasant look to the upper eyelids, and relaxing the frown and forehead muscles reduces frown lines and forehead lines. The result is a more youthful, relaxed look to the upper face.

A brow lift is can be accomplished using a few different techniques.  According to Dr. Michael Jasin, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon in Tampa, a more traditional brow lift done using a scalpel to make tiny incisions along the hair line is the method he prefers.  While it can be done through an endoscopic approach, Dr. Jasin feels that the scalpel method is a more simple technique, which lead to a an easier  recovery and maximal results.  The small incisions heal very quickly and are virtually invisible once the procedure if completed.  The procedure can be done on an outpatient basis in about an hour and the recovery period is takes from two to seven days before a patient can resume full activity.

Reduce Wrinkles for a Natural, Youthful Appearance

Once the brow lift has been done and the recovery completed, the patient will notice a reduction of the frown lines in the forehead region.  The deep horizontal furrows will be eliminated or lessened, the eyebrows will be lifted and the eye area will open up.  This will make the patient look both younger and more alert.  When the eyebrows are depressed due to the lax muscles and sagging skin in the forehead area, people often mention that they look angry, anxious or half-asleep.  Once the brow lift is done, the results can be remarkable in terms of providing a natural, yet fresher appearance.

As with all surgery, the work should be done by a well-qualified medical doctor in an accredited medical facility.  Look for a plastic surgeon that has many years of experience with the procedure and ask for testimonials from former patients before undergoing any surgery.  While a brow lift is a safe and relatively minor procedure, it is not worth the risk to go with a bargain basement provider or to have the work done by a non-medical person.  The brow lift can reduce wrinkles for a long time so it makes sense to choose your surgeon with care.
